Default MADtv Gears Up For November Sweeps

New episodes are just around the corner, and for once, it seems like The Powers That Be behind MADtv are actively trying to generate some buzz for the series.

From TheFutonCritic.com:
This November Sweeps, MADtv serves up late-night laughs with four all-new episodes. On Saturday, Nov. 4 (11:00 PM-Midnight ET/PT), singer-songwriter Nelly Furtado pays a visit to the late-night laugh riot, which will also feature a parody of "Project Runway." The following week, Saturday, Nov. 11 (11:00 PM-Midnight ET/PT), Seth MacFarlane, the hilariously twisted mind behind FOX hits FAMILY GUY and AMERICAN DAD, guest-stars on MADtv, bringing with him a never-before-seen clip of FAMILY GUY as a live-action comedy featuring "Stewie" (Bobby Lee), "Chris" (Frank Caeti), "Lois" (Arden Myrin), "Meg" (Crista Flanagan) and "Peter" (guest star MacFarlane). The same night, MADtv welcomes musical guest Los Lonely Boys. The late-night madness continues with two additional all-new episodes on Saturday, Nov. 18 and Saturday, Nov. 25 (11:00 PM-Midnight ET/PT), the latter featuring a performance by the new queen of punk, Lady Sovereign.
No mention of the previously announced Tom Bergeron and Efren Ramirez guest stints, but maybe they'll show up in the unannounced episode.

The live-action Family Guy skit sounds awesome, but too bad they couldn't get Alex on. And I understand it's sweeps and all, but Los Lonely Boys and Lady Sovereign? Bah, I think we could have done without real musical guests. It's be cool if they were parodies of them, but I don't know if I'd call Los Lonely Boys parody-worthy. Lady Sovereign, on the other hand...

I'm wondering if you heard the story about "Family Guy" almost became an actual part of MADtv before it became a weekly FOX cartoon.

Wow, that sounds pretty cool. The Project Runaway parody seems like it'll be good since MadTV parodies reality shows quite well (Survivor, Laguna Beach, American Idol, The Hills...ect).

Live action Family Guy thing sounds interesting. I wonder how that'll work out...if they'll treat it like a parody or just an actual episode of Family Guy. It woulda been awesome if they had gotten Alex to do Lois and them maybe throw in a new Mrs. Swan sketch in the same episode....(yeah right, in my dreams).

The musical guests though...I could do without. I dont like musical guests, they take up time and i usually flip to another channel when they come on (unless its a parody, of course).

Wrong.

"MacFarlane's big break came when the producers of "MADtv" discovered "The Life of Larry" and approached him to air it on their show. Although that deal fell apart, executives at FOX recognized his talent and gave him a shot to create a prime time animated series of his own. Over the next six months, MacFarlane created, animated, wrote, directed, and provided all the main male characters' voices for what became "Family Guy." "

As far as Project Runway, it's about damn time. Arden would make a great Heidi Klum. Too bad they probably can't include impressions of Jay (Frank), Santino (Michael) and Wendy PEPPERS! (Rachel Dratch .. err, Nicole).

I really hope Nelly doesn't actually sing during her "visit." I'm so sick of Promiscious, but I really don't know what else she'd be doing over there.

I'm pretty excited for the Project Runway parody, as long as it's a good length, and not cut up into two/three/four splices. I think it's pretty easy to guess who will play who, but they better make Arden as Heidi. I would be okay with Nicole, but she could do better else where. Leave Arden as our typcast eyecandy. It's best that way.

She has a new single out called "Maneater," which isn't much of an improvement over the last song. Honestly, she is easily the worst performer I've ever seen on TV. She can't even sing on key for the main verse of her own song and her "rapping" isn't much better. Give me Ashlee Simpson any day over Nelly Furtado, she is awful. If you don't believe me, just watch one of her performances on YouTube. I thought maybe her older stuff wasn't as bad, but it is. She is awful.

That Lady Sovereign chick is weird, she sounds like a rip-off of M.I.A. and her video is really bizarre. There is one part where she becomes a giant ball of armpit hair. It's really weird. She sounds Jamaican or Carribean on her single, but she is a little white girl.

Ew. I can't stand lady sovereign, I'm gonna feel free to go to the bathroom or go get a snack during her "performance". But I am positively THRILLED that there will be more musical guests. Hopefully this isn't just a sweeps thing.

Bah, I'm not...I personally can't smeggin' stand an assload of musical guests, especially those from the pop/rap genre (there have been a few exceptions to this, such as Queens of the Stone Age). But meh, it draws in extra viewers to watch MADtv, and after S11, MADtv NEEDS new viewers badly, so yeah. And I can probably bet that certain people around here whose SN initials are "ND" will probably enjoy Lady Sovereign.

The Family Guy sketch sounds cool, it will be interesting to see how they approach it. Frank should be able to pull off a pretty decent Chris impression i dunno about the rest though.

Did you hear her current hit, doesn't she sound like she's ripping off the lyrics Genesis tune "I Can't Dance" near the end of the record?

no offence to Arden but I wish Seth could of brought Alex with him. It would be great if they just wrote Arden down and surprised us with Alex. Or mabye Alex could walk in have way through as "the real lois" and they get in a fight. Or maybe......well...I guess I should stop dreaming...lol. Anyways, it should be halarious. Maybe I can actually make this one. I'm excited for it!

I wasn't sure where to spread this bit of news because there's no Episode 1204 thread at this time. So ...

I just watched 10/28/06 rerun of Episode 1201, and there was a brief advertisement for Ep. 1204.

Fluffy Jump Spoon (fake Japanese pop group consisting of Bobby, Arden, Crista, and some drummer in a panda suit) is expected to be the "musical performance." (This looks like it's gonna be ... HILARIOUS!)

In addition, it looks like Nelly Furtado will NOT be performing. Instead, Eugene Struthers (Keegan) will be interviewing her in another installment of "Ho' Nuva Level." (Yes! Another HNL! I'm hoping it will be just as brilliant as the one with The Rock and Xzibit.)

Nelly Furtado would be good for the HNL thing I think, she seems to have a great sense of humour.
I'm looking forward to Fluffy Jump Spoon a lot. I love their new song.

Yikes, I hope they don't overdo HNL this year. It has the potential to be as bad (or perhaps even worse) as This N' That. I liked the one with The Rock and Xhibit a lot, but I think they should have waited a while before doing another. At least Nelly won't be performing...

The commercial last night was very very...how do you put it...well, it didnt show alot. It showed a few minutes from the HNL thing, and HNL isnt even really that good. It could become the next "Tank" or "24 with Bobby Lee" (aka overdone skecthes that no one likes). This particular one though, from the looks of it, can potentially be pretty funny.

MadTV.com says there's going to be another Sesame Street parody. I guess they're making this a recurring sketch now. I hope they dont kill it...the 1st one was good and the 2nd one was decent.
