[MADtv] Season 12 Show Changes

After hearing Frank Caliendo's comments about the show recieving a revamp this season, I decided to try and find out what this meant for myself. Here's what I got from an undoubtedly reliable source:

1. There will be no new castmembers. This season, MADtv is sticking with a smaller group of 10 so that everyone gets fair air time, and nobody gets "forgotten" like Frank and Daniele did last year. This doesn't mean there won't be any new featured players joining the show later in the season, but for now, there are none.
2. Speaking of Frank and Daniele, they are the only castmembers leaving (apart from Stephnie). Frank Caeti and Nicole Randall Johnson have been promoted, and Arden is retaining her position as a regular. That gives us a cast consisting of Ike Barinholtz, Frank Caeti, Crista Flanagan, Keegan-Michael Key, Bobby Lee, Michael McDonald, Arden Myrin, Nicole Parker, Jordan Peele and Nicole Randall Johnson.
3. As with last year, there is going to be more of a push for shorter sketches, and therefore more sketches per show. In addition, there will be more location shooting, which was noticeable last season and provided some variety. I just hope it doesn't mean an "adventure" sketch every episode.
4. Shooting starts tomorrow, August 21st.

I should be able to get the #1201 episode description from FOX in a week or two. Until then, this is all I got.

I'm still upset about them letting Danielle gaither go......I will actually try to watch this season....maybe Keegan will grow on me.......I hope the show just starts getting better.....with strong reacurring characters like back in the day. But it sounds pretty good. I'm so happy Nicole Parker is staying!!!!!

PS: Maybe a new theme song???? That would be cool...they've had this one since season 8!

Oooh secret source eh? I have a few guesses....

I like that they are keeping a small cast. I usually like seeing new people on the show but with Arden, Frank and Nicole returning, I think that the show's cast is pretty good and should be left the same for a while. I honestly would have loved the idea of new featured players if Frank, Nicole and Arden weren't so good on the show. But obviouisly they are great IMO so let's enjy the cast and watch them get attached to each other and continue to work great together.

Awesome! I think this could also help the cast become stronger as well, without having some new guy come in and screw everything up. Plus, we could probably see the cast hanging out around the set like in the first few seasons.

Damn, I was really hoping Ike and Micheal would leave this season.

This I'm not sure I like. This COULD potentially be like how it was in the first few seasons, where they would fit about 20 bits into an episode. This could also mean sketches won't drag on anymore, BUT it could also mean the sketches would be rushed. As long as they reprise the sketches later in the episode it should be okay.

I'm generally happy with the news. Last season was very much a throwback to season 2, which I loved, so maybe we could see more of that. A few things I'm hoping for, though, are that they keep the stage, get new credits, and would it kill them to throw in some references to the magazine?

no....the way they do it...with the faces and 2 characters behind them...that started in season 8. Well season 8 they were slightly moving, in season 9 they did the still photo of their heads. Wait.....I ment opening, the song is ok, just the way they show the cast.

Oh OK you mean the graphics and such... yeah I am getting tired of the moving-grid-with-clips-behind-still-photo thing too... here's hoping for a change! *fingers crossed*

Im excited to see what they will do for the opening sketch of the season, the season 10 and 11 opening sketches have both been good starts to the respective seasons. I wonder what they will have in store this season...

I'd definetly like new opening credits, that's for sure. And the return of the Season 10 sketch exits, those were nice. They had some back in the Phil/Debra/Nicole days, you know the "I can't go out this Saturday night... I'm on TV!" ones.

While it could mean more sketches like Yvoone Criddle, it could also mean *shudder* Ike and Bobby (and sometimes Jordan) going out on one of their little 'adventures' EVERY EPISODE. Whee, now we'll get to see Bobby's package every week!

Still, I'm happy the show's getting a 'revamp'. You could tell the show was improving by the end of S11.

i really like that the cast is staying the same this time around and being small,,i think id like to see more of everyone,,,i really like the "adventure" sketches, but come on, not every friggin episode!,,,i think with time this cast could be one of the best MADtv's ever had, everyone seems to have their own unique style and put together its really good,,,i got good feelin's bout this season
