Post "Let's do it." SNL Presents: A Very Gilly Christmas

For 2009 years, people have come together around this time to remember the birth of a little baby called Jesus. For almost that long, SNL has come together around this time for the last 35 years to remember the birth in there own special way. Wheather it's Gumby's Christmas special or the introduction of the newest Christmas treat Schweddy Balls, SNL has roasted Christmas like a plump turkey. To honour the Christmas season, SNL will be writing another chapter on to there Christmas legacy with a best of Christmas 2-hour specialpalooza.

To host this special will be none other than Kristen Wiig's most beloved character of all time Gilly. Gilly will be dancing and strutting the stage as she introduces some of SNL's most classic sketches. Gilly won't be the only one manning the helm for the night, as soon to be Oscar hosts Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin will be stopping by to introduce some of there classic sketches.

What do you all think. Should the hosting right be going to Gilly? Is 2 hours too long for a Christmas special? Would they have been better off sticking with the special they did in 2002 with Tina Fey and Jimmy Fallon? Let your voice be heard here!

The special will air Thrusday the 17th from 8:00-10:00.

We here in Canada get to watch this a day early, so I'll let you all know wheather it's great, or a 2-hour waste of your life. I wouldn't bet on the ladder since this is classic SNL, but if the new sketches (which according to the preview I saw said there should be) and the questionable Gilly ark it might be more worth it to say "I've seen the old sketches already and I just can't tolorate this new stuff".

I think this is more NBC's doing. But I do agree that they shouldn't. I mean, MADtv made a lot of best of's but there were reasons behind that. Those reasons being the fact that Fox cut their budget so much that to stay over a low 12 episodes, they had to fill days with cheap best of's.

I think the only reason they are doing this is to fill the 2 hours with more sketches from post 2002 when they did a Christmas best of. I did hear that there were going to be new sketches so that might be good, but that all depends on what Global defines as "new". It could mean new, or new as in you didn't see some of this in the last special.

If it means fewer Xmas sketches this Saturday, I'm game.

Why? I liked the Choir one this past Saturday. Kenan sings like an angel, I also loved the part where Andy yelled into Jenny as Hanukkah Elvis's face "this is gay!"

Ok, the episode is just about to begin in West Coast Canada, and by an NBC ad I saw a few minutes ago, there will be new sketches. Still, I'm not happy that Gilly is doing this. When I was watching the ad with my dad he actually groaned at the sight of her, and when I asked him why he was groaning, he just said "Gilly". Even he hates Gilly, and he doesn't follow this show like I am now. I just hope that the source I have is wrong, and that she is just doing one sketch. Since I got it from TV Guide, a site I should not be getting sources from, as Antonia says "it's possible". Yeah, I went there.

She's in one sketch and a cubic assload of wraparounds.

Pretty good special on the whole. Schweddy Balls is a true Xmas classic.

Well here's a little early Christmas gift for you all. I have used my great gift of the early episode release to make a short summary of the episode. You can get an idea of what is on the show to see if you want to tune in to the show tomorrow. Now be warned this is not a detailed summary, but bare in mind I did do this as I was watching the show, and I have a test at 8:30 in the morning tomorrow so I don't have time to write a full summary. Deal with what I give you here.

Sketch: It’s Christmas time and a local school, and all the children are making something for the Christmas tree. Liam (Bobby Moynihan) makes an angel out of his grandma’s pills, Sam (Kenan Thompson) makes a one corn popcorn necklace due to his broken arms, and Paula (Abby Elliott) makes a manjor scene with father Robert Pattison, baby Taylor Lautner, and the virgin Mary Adam Lambert. When a hissing sound is heard, the teacher, Mr. Dillion (Will Forte) asks where, or who is doing it. After asking all the children Paula informs him that it is Gilly’s (Kristen Wiig) ordiment, which is a bomb. When she is asked to get rid of it she tosses it and it explodes.

Credits: Will Forte: (Dillion), Bobby Moynihan (Liam), Kenan Thompson (Sam), Abby Elliott (Paula), Kristen Wiig (Gilly)

Open: Gilly is brought in by a singing church choir singing her theme song.

Encore: Monologue

Encore: The Mark Jedson Family Christmas

Gilly Wraparound: Gilly has Santa hostage as she rides his sleigh. She then says “It’s clip time”.

Encore Clip: Walkin in a Winter Wonderland

Sketch: Steve Martin Introduces his Christmas Wish Sketch: Steve Martin introduces his Christmas Wish Sketch. He never knew it was going to taught to school children, and immigrants, be engraved on a spaceship, win the Cy Young Award, or win the “America’s Best Dance Crew Trophy”. Especially since the last 2 are for baseball and teams respectively. As he finishes, it then starts to snow, but the snow is actually rat poison, tossed by Gilly.

Credits: Steve Martin (Himself), Kristen Wiig (Gilly)

Encore: Steve Martin’s Christmas Wish

Encore: Advice for Cobblers

Encore: Weekend Update: Adam Sandler’s Hanukah.

Encore: Russell Crowe: Christmas: Australian Style

Sketch: Gilly brings Dillion a present that seems to be ticking. Dillion asks if the box is going to explode. She says no. When he opens it up, he finds that the box contains a sweater and a clock, and says sorry to Gilly for doubting her. He looks up only to find that she is holding a gun. Gilly ends up shoots Dillion in the arm.

Credits Will Forte (Dillion), Kristen Wiig (Gilly)

Encore: Christmas Homelessville

Encore: Monologue: Robert DeNiro Sings with Kermit

Encore: TV Funhouse: Christmas Time for the Jews

Encore: Two A-Holes at a Live Maternaty Scene

Encore Clip: Season’s Greetings from Tarzan, Tonto, and Frankenstein

Gilly Wraparound: Gilly is skiing down a mountain, and running over people

Encore: I Wish it was Christmas Today

Encore: Robert Goulet All Holiday Special

Encore: Consumer Probe

Encore Clip: Dysfunctional Family Christmas

Gilly Wraparound: Gilly unplugs the lights on the Christmas tree at 30 Rockafeller Centre. She then plugs it back in, but instead of the lights covering the tree, a set of lights just form in the middle and spell out “sorry”.

Encore: Dysfunctional Christmas

Encore: Martha Stewart’s Home for the Holidays

Sketch: Mr. Dillion has fallen asleep at his desk. He wakes up in the dark with an empty bottle of alcohol at his desk. Dillion then hears a russelling sound. Gilly then appears in chains, like the ghost of Christmas past. Dillion wonders if Gilly is here to teach him the meaning of Christmas, but in truth Gilly is just there to introduce another sketch, and to scare Dillion a little.

Credits: Will Forte (Dillion), Kristen Wiig (Gilly)

Encore: It’s a Wonderful Life: The Lost Footage

Encore: SNL Digital Short: Dick in a Box

Encore Clip: Mr. Robinson Neighborhood

Encore: TV Funhouse: Santa Skips the Red States

Encore: Santa’s my Boyfriend

Sketch: Alec Baldwin comes by to introduce his famous Schwetty Balls sketch.

Credits Alec Baldwin (Himself)

Encore: Schwetty Balls

Encore Clip: Mary K. Galliger: Christmas Choir

Sketch: Gilly, Dillion, and the class is on stage. Dillion thinks that Gilly should say goodnight, but all Gilly says is “I’m tired”.

Credits: Will Forte (Dillion), Abby Elliott (Paula), Kristen Wiig (Gilly), Bobby Moynihan (Liam), Kenan Thompson (Sam)

The old classic sketches were all nice but the new stuff was just crap.
